If you’ve ever been on public transportation or as I call it, “el metro”, then you know how long it takes to get to your destination. I first started taking the bus at the age of 17 to get to school. To get there I would have to wake up at 5 am and be at the bus stop just in time to catch the 6 am bus, this bus would take me to downtown where I would then get on another that would take me about a block away from my high school. Not only was this exhausting, it was scary. Especially when taking the wrong bus, those were scary adventures.
On my rides I often daydreamed about one day having my own vehicle to be free and go wherever I wanted without waiting so long to get there. I don’t use public transportation anymore, but if I ever find myself in the need for it again I would happily use it especially with all the updates the city has made by adding new routes to decrease travel time. But nothing beats taking the road on your own where your destination is freedom.
Today, after many years we have a pick-up truck something I always dreamed of…and really any Texan, we do love trucks. Her name (because yes, we did name her) Paloma. While this is not our first vehicle, like our others we take good care of it by keeping up with it’s routine maintenance and oil change. Usually it’s my husband who takes care of the vehicle’s maintenance, since he often uses it for work or on our family outings, but this time Naty and I rode along since the oil change would be at Walmart. I love getting an oil change at Walmart because I don’t have to wait around until they finish, although the waiting area in the auto care center was empty and very inviting, I prefer to shop around and get some items off my list in one trip.
As soon as we pulled in the employees were eager to help us, I just love friendly customer service. Tony, the employee who helped us was very helpful- making suggestions for our truck, he even showed us the way to the motor oils and explaining the differences between all three of Quaker State motor oils (Advanced Durability, Ultimate Durability, and Defy-High Mileage). We went with Defy for high mileage vehicles since our Paloma is hanging in the 160k range.
By the way, did you know Walmart’s Auto Care Center is open everyday? All with convenient hours to help you fit in your vehicle’s oil change in your busy schedule.
And why wait when you have the whole entire Walmart to explore? First stop, to get some fishing baits and lures but as always Naty wants to do some shopping of her own. Speaking of fishing, have I ever mentioned how much I love it? Well I do, I think if I had the opportunity to live near the water, I would. When my family first came to the US we lived in Florida, so every weekend was spent on the beach. Here in Texas summertime means going out to Galveston, or Texas City and wherever I can find a good place to catch some fish. Paloma gives us the freedom to go wherever the road take us. She might be a big vehicle but she sure is handy, there’s no way I could carry all my family’s road trip needs in the small trunk of my little car.
What are weekends without fun right? I love capturing moments with my camera but I have Paloma to thank for getting us there, because without her we would not be able to go to those fun places we go whether its to school, to visit family, beach, festivals, etc. Every Sunday is Funday, if we can’t go out on Saturdays, then Sundays are always for the kids to enjoy. Even more now that gas prices are the lowest I’ve seen in years!
To me Paloma represents that freedom I longed-for as a teen while riding el metro, what’s best is that today I get to enjoy that ride to freedom with my familia.
Where does your vehicle take you?
