Help Pedigree Dog Food Give Back to Shelter Dogs in Need

Have you ever adopted a dog from your local shelter? Have you ever considered it? Well now is the perfect time to go adopt a cutie from a shelter because October is Adopt a Dog Month. I love all kinds of animals but especially dogs.They give unconditional love and are always there ready to play and give affection with their warm kisses wagging tail and all! Ever since I was a kid I always wanted a dog, eventually my family moved into a new home and we could finally get a puppy. One day while helping my mother clean an elderly lady"s house she talked about her love for her dogs and asked if I had one, I said no and expressed my love for them also. When we finished cleaning her home she paid my mother and said the extra money is for Janie"s new dog, " Go to the SPCA and choose the one you want, you"ll know he/she is the right one because you will feel a special connection." I wondered if that was true...

When we arrived at our local SPCA I was shocked to see so many pets all in need of a loving home. I must have walked through the shelter about 3 times looking at every dog from the smallest to the biggest, hoping to find one that I could call my own. One puppy caught my eye, he was the only one not barking or jumping. I walked up to take a closer look and he started wagging his tail but he looked so sad. I could not walk away from him, so I adopted my first puppy and gave him a new home and a new name, Chester. Chester passed away last year but he was a great dog, it even seems odd for me to call him my dog or pet because he truly was part of our family he brought 13 years of happiness into our lives. He took good care of my family always alerting us when a stranger was at our door, we lived on a small dead end street so he would always be on guard alerting neighbors. Everyone knew him by name, even the mail man! He was very much loved and such a great boy, one of the few dogs that received presents from Santa! 


I love volunteering at shelters and helping out stray dogs whenever I can, I thank my middle school teacher for introducing me to volunteering, it"s such a great feeling knowing you made a difference in even the smallest ways! I"m so proud that my daughter shares the same love for animals as I do. We recently adopted Toby, a miniature schnauzer which she loves and treats him as her baby. And everytime we visit grandma her dog Chulo (below) whose also an adoped dog gets super excited and so playful. Whenever I hear someone wanting a pet I always encourage them to adopt from a shelter. Shelter pets need a loving home, a place where they can feel safe and provide you with all their loyal love.

Alguna vez has adoptado a un perrito de algun albergue? Acaso lo has considerado? Bueno ahora es el momento perfecto para ir a tu albergue mas cercano y adoptar a un perrito porque este mes de Octubre es el mes de la Adopcion de Mascotas. A mi me encanta todo tipo de animalitos, pero en especia los perritos. Brindan un amor incondicional y siempre estan listos para jugar y nos expresan su amor y felicidad con sus besitos y movimiento de colita. Desde chica siempre quiese tener un perro, eventualmente nos mudamos a una casa con suficiente patio para poder tener un perrito. Un dia mientras ayudaba a mi mama a limpiar la casa de una señora, ella me contaba su amor por sus perros y me pregunto si yo tenia uno, le dije que no y le exprese mi amor y interes por tener uno. Cuando terminamos de limpiar su hogar le pago a mi mama y dijo que el dinero extra era para un perrito. "Ve al SPCA, un albergue de mascotas y escoje el que quieras. Tu sabras cual es el indicado porque sentiras una coneccion especial."



 Cuando llegamos al albergue me sorprendi al ver tantas mascotas necesitando un hogar. Probablemente le di tres vueltas al albergue buscando desde los mas pequeños hasta los mas grandes, esperanzada de poder encontrar uno para mi. Por fin encontre a un cachorrito que llamo mi atención ya que era el unico que no estaba ladrando ni brincando, me acerque hacia el y comenzo a mover tu colita pero me miraba con unos ojitos tristes. No lo pude dejar, lo adopte dandole un hogar nuevo junto con un nombre nuevo, Chester. Siento raro llamarlo mi perro o mascota porque el fue parte de nuestra familia donde por 13 años nos brindo mucha felicidad. El cuidaba muy bien de mi familia siempre avisando cuando llegaba algun extraño a nuestra puerta. Viviamos en una calle pequeña asi que Chester era el guardia siempre protegiendo a los vecinos y niños, hasta al cartero! Era un perrito muy querido y uno de los pocos que recibia regalitos de Santa en navidad.

Cuando tengo tiempo me encanta ir a albergues y ser voluntaria. Le doy gracias a mi maestra de secundaria quien me introducio a ser voluntaria a una edad temprana. Es un sentimiento maravilloso saber que estas aciendo una diferencia hasta en las maneras mas pequeñas. Estoy muy contenta que igual que yo, mi hija tenga un amor por los animalitos. Recientemente adoptamos a un perrito Toby, miniature schnauzer el cual mi hija ama y cuida como si fuera su bebe. Y cada que visitamos a la abuelita su perrito Chulo (abajo) quien tambien es adoptado se emociona y juega con ella, asi librando un poco de las tantas energias que tiene. Cuando escucho que alguien busca tener una mascota trato de animarlos a que adopten de un albergue ya que ahi existen muchos que necesitan un hogar lleno de amor.
