It’s true when they say that there’s a recipe for every moment we value, for example, during Winter when the weather gets cold and family comes together to celebrate the holidays mamá or the tia served the same authentic dish every single year. They serve it because they know the family enjoys it and it becomes a tradition during that time of year. So now that it’s summertime, the grilling gets started, parties in the backyard, at the beach- as moms we look for easy meals and snacks for everyone to enjoy on hot summer days.
One of my favorite summertime snacks has to be fresh fruit, in Mexico after shopping at the plaza, my dad would buy us a Coctel de Frutas from the local street vendor. You could either choose a cup filled with your favorite fruit or mixed, topped with a spicy chili powder and freshly squeezed lime juice- it was the perfect refreshing afternoon snack I needed on warm sunny days.
This refreshing snack has been popping up in every store I go, but it’s so simple and easy to make I decided to save some extra bucks and shop for the items and make it myself. I love shopping at Kroger because they always have fresh local produce at low prices, and with their coupons and sales/promotions I get to save even more. I’ve always said how much I love saving money but not a big fan of using paper coupons, at Kroger I can easily download digital coupons from their app directly onto my Shopper’s Card, making my savings at the checkout a breeze!

Fresh Fruit Cocktail
Ingredients:
Watermelon
Jicama
Cantaloupe
Cucumbers
Mango
Pineapple
Limes
Mexican chili powder
Directions:
Start by cutting up all the fruit and removing skin.
Cut fruit into slices and place a few of each fruit in every plastic cup.
Squeeze some lime juice over fruit and sprinkle with chili powder. Grab a fork and enjoy the fresh goodness!
You will have plenty of fruit leftover to snack, I’m sure you could get many, many fruit cocktails out of this… best of all, you can entertain dozens of guests for under $20!
